Skit 1

Original skit titled: Do You Go To Church by Walter Norvell

The rewritten skit I wrote is titled: Christians Are The Church

Bobby James: Hi there, folks! Bobby James here, reporting for Get Your Life Together News. Today, we're going to interview some people on the street to see if they attend church regularly. Here comes someone now... Excuse me, ma'am. I'm Bobby James from Get Your Life Together News.

Can I ask your name?

Mrs. Too Busy: Certainly, dear. I'm Mrs. Too Busy. What's all this about?

Bobby James: We're doing a survey on how many people go to church. Do you go to church often?

Mrs. Too Busy: Well, not as much as I'd like. I manage to make it on special occasions like Christmas and Easter,

you know, when I've got a lovely outfit prepared.

Bobby James: Why don't you go to church more often?

Mrs. Too Busy: Time flies by with all my duties—helping the elderly, caring for my grandkids, running errands. Sundays seem to slip away before I even notice.

Bobby James: Have you considered on taking your grandkids to church?

Mrs. Too Busy: It's crossed my mind, but my hands are tied with responsibilities. Duty calls, young man. I've got to rush to pick up groceries for the elderly. Excuse me.

Bobby James: Thank you for your time, Mrs. Too Busy.

As Mrs. Too Busy hurries away, Bobby James says to the camera:

Bobby James: Well, Mrs. Too Busy lives up to her name. She's too busy to attend church. Let's see what our next interviewee has to say.

Bobby James: Good afternoon, sir.

Mr. Work A Lot: Hello there.

Bobby James: I'm Bobby James from Get Your Life Together News. What's your name?

Mr. Work A Lot: You can call me Mr. Work A Lot.

Bobby James: Mr. Work A Lot, do you find time to go to church?

Mr. Work A Lot: Unfortunately, no. Work keeps me occupied all day, every day.

Bobby James: Have you thought about prioritizing church attendance with your family?

Mr. Work A Lot: I've encouraged my wife to take the kids to Sunday School, but as for me...

Bobby James: Wouldn't it be meaningful to attend as a family?

Mr. Work A Lot: It would, indeed. But my schedule is jam-packed. Sorry, got to run. Farewell.

Bobby James: Well, Mr. Work A Lot seems too busy for church. Just like Mrs. Too Busy. Let's gain insight from our next interview.

Bobby James: Good day, ma'am.

Emma: Hello there!

Bobby James: I'm Bobby James from Get Your Life Together News. What's your name?

Emma: Emma.

Bobby James: Emma, how essential is church involvement in your life?

Emma: It's absolutely crucial. I make it a priority to engage in church activities regularly.

Bobby James: Admirable. How often do you participate?

Emma: Whenever the church doors are open.

Bobby James: That's remarkable dedication. What drives you to prioritize church amidst of life's demands?

Emma: I love being with other Christians. And church is good. But we can't just go to church on Sunday and think we're okay.

Bobby, as Christians, we aren't just attendees of a building; we are the living, breathing expression of the church. Our actions, our kindness, our love—these are the embodiment of the church in our communities.

Bobby James: You're truly inspiring, Emma.

Bobby James turns to the camera and says,

Bobby James: There you have it, folks. As Emma puts it, being the church isn't just about showing up on Sunday mornings; it's about shining the light of Christ wherever we go. Thank you, Emma, for sharing your wisdom.

Emma: Praise The Lord

Bobby James: And to all our viewers, remember, being the church isn't confined to the four walls of a building. This is Bobby James signing off from Get Your Life Together News. Let's go out there and be the church in the world around us.

Skit 2 Originally Titled: Be Prepared by Marianne Hawkins My Titled: John Boy Wants To Be Like John The Baptist

John Boy (Enters alone, talks to himself): Hmmm...let me see... what was that memory verse again? Oh, yeah! "Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." Wow! John the Baptist sure was a brave man. I wish I could be like him. (Recites loudly as if pretending he was John the Baptist.) "Prepare ye the way of the Lord."

Katie (Enters while John Boy is talking): Hey, John Boy, wasn't that our new memory verse I heard you saying?

John Boy: Yeah, Katie! "Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight" (Luke 3:4).

Katie: That's good, John Boy. I'm glad you learned that verse. You know, John the Baptist was a very important man because he really did prepare the way for Jesus. He went all around the countryside telling everyone about Jesus!

John Boy: I know! He worked very hard to make sure that everyone knew that Jesus was coming.

Katie: Well, you know what I've been thinking about?

John Boy: No, what?

Katie: Is there anything we can do in today's world to "prepare the way of the Lord"?

John Boy: Sure there is, Katie. We can do the same thing John the Baptist did!

Katie: You mean telling everyone about Jesus and how much he loves them?

John Boy: Yes, Katie! Because Jesus is going to come back someday, and he wants everyone to be saved.

Katie: That's right, John Boy. It says that in the Bible.

John Boy: We can witness just like John the Baptist did.

Katie: Yeah... Hey, wait a minute! (Snickers.) JOHN-So that's what you were doing when I came in!

John Boy (Sheepishly): What do you mean?

Katie: You were pretending to be John the Baptist. (Laughs again.)

John Boy: Well...

Katie: Oh, brother! (Snickers.)

John Boy (Shocked): What are you laughing at? John the Baptist was a very brave man. He was so strong and big. It would be great to be like him!

Katie: Aw... I'm just teasing, John Boy. (Moves closer to him and speaks admiringly.) Besides, you'll grow up to be big and strong someday.

John Boy: What do you mean, someday? Just look at this muscle! (Flexes arm.)

Katie: Oh, John Boy, I give up! (Exits.)

Johnnie (Exits saying): "Prepare ye the way of the Lord."

Skit 3: Originally Titled:

Johnnie's Suitcase by Marianne Hawkins

My Titled: John Boy's Suitcase

(John Boy and Katie enter together.)

John Boy: Boy, I can't wait for our trip to Grandma's. School is almost out for the weekend. I'm so excited!

Katie: Me too, John Boy! I can hardly wait. Are you all packed and ready to go?

John Boy: No, I can't find my suitcase. Have you seen it? (Looks around.) I guess I had better go look for it. (Exits.) Maybe it's in the closet.

Katie (To audience): That's John Boy for you. Always putting things off until the last minute.

John Boy (Offstage): Katie, hey Katie! I found it!

Katie (To audience): Finally!

John Boy (Enters, whistling): Well, I got all my clothes packed!

Katie: Just in time too!

John Boy: And I packed my toothbrush!

Katie (Hesitantly): Uh... that's great, John Boy, but uh ... we don't have any teeth! (Both puppets turn slowly toward audience.)

John Boy: Well, I believe in being prepared! I also packed my hairbrush and comb.

Katie: It looks like you need to use it!

John Boy looks at Katie in shock.

John Boy: Well anyways. I have to still pack my sword, my shield, my lamp, my books of hymns, my bread, my guide, my library of 66 books, a group of letters and..."

Katie Interrupts: Wait a minute. Do you expect me to believe that you are going to put 66 books, a lamp, a bunch of letters, and all that other stuff in one little suitcase? It would take a BIG moving truck to hold all of that! You can't do it!!

John Boy: Oh, yes I can!

Katie: I don't believe it. How in the world can you possibly get all of that in your suitcase ...

John Boy: Just wait right here, Katie. I'll show you. (Exits.)

Kaite (To audience): He can't possibly do that. There is no way! Sixty-six books, a lamp... how dumb does he think I am!

John Boy (Returns, carrying a Bible): See, Katie, everything I named is right here ... in my Bible! It has 66 books, and Psalms is a book of hymns. The Bible is a lamp because it says in Psalms 119:105 that God's Word is a "lamp to my feet and a light to my path." That means that it helps me to know what God wants me to do.

Katie: Yeah... and the Bible is called the Sword of the Spirit too.

John Boy: It's a very important book, Katie. I love my Bible because it has so many wonderful stories in it and because it is God's Word.

Katie: I need to go pack my Bible in my suitcase too!

John Boy: Let's go find your Bible and pack it. And then we can tell mom that we packed a lamp, a sword a shield...

Katie Interrupts: She'll never believe us! (Both exit, laughing.)
